Steve Sliwinski has served on the Claverack board of directors since his election in 1980 and currently holds the position of vice chairman. During his tenure, he has also held the offices of secretary/treasurer and chairman of the board. In addition, Sliwinski serves as vice chairman of the Valley Energy board of directors and is a director of the Wellsboro Electric Co.

A retired educator, Sliwinski holds a bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University and a master’s degree from Mansfield University. He has served on several municipal and county planning boards and committees and has held the post of chairman of the joint planning committee of Granville Township, Canton Borough and Canton Township.

Sliwinski, who resides in a passive solar home that he designed and built in Granville Township, is locally known as the founder of the annual “Tour de Shunk,” a 100-mile charity bicycle tour of the Endless Mountains region.

Sliwinski enjoys time with his family, a round of golf with friends, cheering for the Nittany Lions and the Pitt Panthers football teams, gardening, camping, reading, and watching Old West cowboy movies. He is an accomplished artist whose award-winning works have been exhibited nationally and internationally. He is also the author of several published historical journal and magazine articles on Native American Indian history.
