John McNamara has been a member of the board since 1978 and served as board chairman for 11 years. He is currently the board chairman of C & T Enterprises, a for-profit corporation set up by Claverack and Tri County REC to provide additional savings and services for members.

McNamara had previously served on the Allegheny Electric Cooperative board of directors for many years. Allegheny Electric is Claverack’s wholesale power supplier.

At the 2006 Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association summer meeting, McNamara was presented the 2006 Eminent Service Award for his leadership and commitment to the goals, ideals, and objectives of the electric cooperative program.

McNamara graduated from Penn State University in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy. He has worked in the landscape business since 1959 and is currently a landscape consultant. A past Silver Lake Township supervisor, he served as chairman of the board for 19 years. He has been an active member of the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Co. for 48 years and retired as fire chief after 25 years of service.

McNamara was an active EMT and has served as chairman of the Bradford/Susquehanna Emergency Medical Service Council. He is a supporting member of the Rose Conservatory and Friends of Salt Springs.

McNamara is married to the former Phyllis Brown. They have four children, Kate, John, Frances, and Charles, and ten grandchildren. Camping is a favorite hobby, and McNamara enjoys travel, reading, music and, especially, the grandchildren.
