Bob Hess has been a member of the Claverack board of directors since 1979. He was appointed to fill a vacant seat and has remained in that seat since. Hess was board president from 1986-1988.

Hess is a cattleman. Prior to raising cattle he was a dairy farmer for 30 years after taking over the family farm.
A past secretary and president of the Pennsylvania Maple Syrup Producers, Hess has been producing syrup since 1964.

In his spare time he enjoys woodworking. Since his retirement he has become an avid sportsman. Hess and his wife, Ada, have four children and five grandchildren.
