Michael J. Coleman

Michael J. Coleman of Montrose has served on the Claverack board of directors since July 2006.

Coleman recently retired as president of Cargill Regional Beef with plant locations in Wyalusing, Fresno, Calif., and Milwaukee, Wisc. He continues to consult in the beef industry.  He has previously served on the Grange National Bank board of directors and currently sits on the regional advisory board for First Liberty Bank and Trust.

Coleman serves as the secretary/treasurer for the Claverack board. He has completed all the educational requirements for the Credentialed Cooperative Director certificate. In addition, Coleman has nearly completed the credentials necessary to receive Board Leadership certification, consisting of a 10-course curriculum based upon current challenges in electrical cooperative board decision-making in the context of the increasingly complicated and strategic energy environment. In an expanded role in the energy industry, Coleman is also on the board of directors of C&T Enterprises and Citizens’ Electric Co. of Lewisburg.

Coleman earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shippensburg University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Scranton. 

He currently serves on, or has served on, several boards including treasurer of St. Patrick’s Cemetery Association, Bradford County Economic Development Advisory Board, the Wyalusing Industrial Development Corporation, St. Francis Parish financial committee, and the board of directors of the National Meat Association.

Mike and his wife, Lyn, live in the house where he grew up and where their two sons were the fifth generation to live in the family homestead. Claverack has provided electric service to the Coleman family’s house and barn since the late 1930s.

An avid turkey hunter, Coleman spends free time planning and planting food plots for wildlife.

Zone 5 serves members in Apolacon, Choconut, Forest Lake, Middletown, Jessup and Rush townships in Susquehanna County and Warren Township in Bradford County.
