Electrical noise is often noticed as radio static or fuzzy television pictures. It has many causes, but the primary source in the home is the operation of electric motors such as those in power tools, vacuum cleaners and appliances like blenders and food processors.

Harmonics are variations in the electrical wave form from the normal 60 cycles per second. They are usually caused by operation of industrial equipment, but can also be caused by florescent lights and personal computers. Problems associated with harmonics are confined mostly to businesses and to date have had little or no affect on residential electricity users.
